Purple Cowboy Wins in San Diego!

We’re feelin’ mighty fine this May… Purple Cowboy Trail Boss Cabernet won GOLD at the San Diego International Wine Competition!

Competing against hundreds of other wines, Purple Cowboy was judged and tasted blind by three-person panels comprised of experienced wine professionals, including winemakers, sommeliers and wine journalists.

The San Diego International benefits the charities of the Social Service Auxiliary (SSA) of San Diego, which supports funding for a youth camp in San Diego. Over the past three decades the SSA has provided thousands of “camperships” for deserving area children.

Pick Up New Purple Cowboy Gear!

Pick Up New Purple Cowboy Gear!

Its Spring! The snow is melting, little green sprouts are popping out of the earth, and hopefully the sun has come out to stay. But April does still come with April showers… and your cattle are probably covered in mud, and you could probably make a small sweater with all the hair you’ve brushed off your horse!

We’re hoping our new Spring gear will help you forget about the messy Spring chores that are waiting for you. This year, we’re introducing some new Purple Cowboy and Cowgirl Sisterhood gear to get you ready for the season.

The new Cowgirl Sisterhood Spring tees should help you dethaw from winter, and help protect your arms from all that horsehair.

Trevor Knowles for Purple Cowboy

Real Cowboys Love Purple Cowboy… and Trevor Knowles is a Real Cowboy!

Read Trevor’s latest update from the Pro Rodeo Circuit here.

We’re proud to introduce a new addition to the Purple Cowboy family – Pro Rodeo Cowboy Trevor Knowles! He’s joining our team as a Purple Cowboy Endorsee on the Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association Circuit this year.

Trevor can celebrate his latest $25,000 win in steer wrestling with a glass of Purple Cowboy Tenacious Red or Trail Boss Cabernet Sauvignon.

All year long, he’ll be sharing his experiences and stories from the rodeo trail with us. We’ll be sharing his stories from the road here on our blog and over on our Facebook Page. Make sure you’re signed up for our newsletter so you don’t miss a word!

Originally from Baker City, Oregon, Trevor has been a PRCA competitor since 2001. His main events are steer wrestling and tie-down roping with his total PRCA career earnings topping more than $1.25 million! This cowboy has rodeo in his blood; his uncle is Butch Knowles, an NFR saddle bronc riding champion. His cousin, Blake Knowles is also a PRCA steer wrestler.

TK2

He’s qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo ten times since 2004 and currently holds a 6th place world standing in his events. At the 2013 WNFR, he won Round 1 with a time of 3.1 seconds and placed in three other rounds.

He’s got a couple of superstitions when it comes to competing, including “don’t eat chicken” and “don’t shave on game day.”

When he’s not riding, this single cowboy is an avid hunter and fisherman and he’s got a knack for music.  If you’re lucky, you may see him singing and playing his guitar – we have heard that he played at one of the WNFR Buckle Presentations and he is a regular singing cowboy at the Purple Cowboy Campfire during the California Rodeo in Salinas in July every year.

Join us in welcoming Trevor to our Purple Cowboy family and look out for his updates from the road all throughout the year!

Hats Off to Tough Enough Events

Gunnison

The Tough Enough To Wear Pink™ Western Campaign to raise money and awareness for breast cancer raised over $17 million dollars in 2013 through the hard work of regional rodeos and western events across the country.   The monies raised stayed local to benefit community breast cancer charities – which is the strength of the campaign’s success.

“2013 marked the ninth anniversary of Tough Enough to Wear Pink at the Wrangler NFR and the campaign continues to gain momentum.  Nobody could have imagined that together we would raise millions of dollars for the cause,” said Terry Wheatley. A breast cancer survivor herself, Wheatley is an entrepreneur, wife and mother to professional rodeo competitors.  She founded Tough Enough to Wear Pink in 2004 with Karl Stressman, former director of special events for Wrangler and now commissioner of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PCRA).

We tip our hats to everyone who raised money for breast cancer awareness and research through Tough Enough to Wear Pink and these top 10 fundraising events and rodeos:

  1. “Cowboys For Cancer Research” Las Cruces, NM, $906,424.09
  2. Cattlemen’s Days – Gunnison, Colorado, $205,950.00
  3. Missoula Stampede – Missoula, Montana, $145,000.00
  4. Minot Y’s Mens Rodeo-Badlands Circuit Finals, Minot, ND, $110,271.00
  5. Rancheros Visitadores TETWP – Solvang, California, $100,000.00

For the rodeo newbies in our community – just in case –  here is the official description of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo according to the ProRodeo website…

“The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo is the season-ending championship event for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and is widely acknowledged to be the world’s premier rodeo. Held every December since 1985 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, the Wrangler NFR is ProRodeo’s richest and most prestigious rodeo, and it showcases the very best cowboys, barrel racers and livestock in the world.

The top 15 contestants in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping (headers and heelers), saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding – based on money won during the regular season, the Justin Boots Playoffs and Championships, and for many bull riders, the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour – qualify to compete at the Wrangler NFR. At the conclusion of the Wrangler NFR, the sport’s world champions are determined based on total season earnings – what they win during the Wrangler NFR added to what they won before the Wrangler NFR.

The Wrangler NFR consists of 10 rounds on 10 consecutive days. Cowboys and barrel racers earn money by placing first through sixth in any round, and pick up more money by placing first through eighth in the average (cumulative times or points earned during the 10 rounds). At the end of each Wrangler NFR, there are two champions in each event (four for team roping): the average winner, who won the Wrangler NFR by having the best cumulative time or score in his or her event over the 10 rounds, and the world champion, who finished the year with the most money (including what he or she earned at the Wrangler NFR). For each event, the average winner and world champion may be the same person or different people.”

We are proud to be a part of the WNFR and will celebrate Tough Enough to Wear Pink Night on Monday, December 9th.  Pack your Pink!

Join us virtually or in Las Vegas on December, 9 – hope to see you there!

Hauling For Hope II[1] The 7th Annual Tough Enough To Wear Pink Horse Show is gearing up for another amazing year!  During its existence, the show has raised $157,500! Funds raised have been donated to the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Patient Assistance. Last year’s show was the best so far, raising $50,000, nearly one-third of the total money raised, to date. TETWP Golf Cart SignThe 2013 show is September 20-22 at Roberts Arena in Wilmington, Ohio. The horse show has many of the standard classes, along with a few special ones. Each year they have an “In Memories Class” and a “Survivors Class.”  The main goal is to have more participants in the “Survivors” class, in 2012 there were 17 riders that came through the gate!  There is still a large gap in numbers between these two classes, but they plan on having the show for many years to come!  Last year’s show saw a 10% increase in overall participants with 1650 riders – simply amazing! The dedicated folks at the horse show have had an amazing collection of items donated over the last six years to aid in their fundraising efforts. In the past, they’ve raffled such items as a pink manure spreader and a pink horse trailer! This year will be no different. In addition to another pink horse trailer, the group will be raffling a golf cart! Raffle tickets can be purchased throughout the year. The cost is $5 per ticket or five for $20. The drawing will be held at the show in September.  The first ticket drawn will be for the pink horse trailer and the second ticket drawn will be for the golf cart. Last year tickets were sold to people all across the country!  Anyone interested in purchasing raffle tickets may do so by visiting www.toughenoughtowearpinkhorseshow.com, or by emailing chip-jackson@sbcglobal.net or kaytracy7630@sbcglobal.net. Please leave your phone number and the wonderful TETWP Horse Show team will be happy to contact you!
