Boss Lady

Meet Terry Wheatley

Terry Wheatley, creator of Purple Cowboy wines, comes from a background rooted in the western life and a close-knit ranching family. Her husband and son were both champion rodeo cowboys. A breast cancer survivor, Terry co-founded Tough Enough To Wear Pink in 2004, the western community’s grassroots campaign against breast cancer, with pink-themed fundraising events at rodeos across the country. To date, $35 million has been raised, going back to local organizations serving families facing breast cancer and international research.

Terry is also a long-time wine industry executive, having worked at major wine companies E&J Gallo Winery and Sutter Home/Trinchero Family Estates before founding her own wine company in 2008.

It was there she created Purple Cowboy wines with a commitment to give back to the cause she founded. Named for the “Band of the Purple Cowboys”, a legendary group of winemaking cowboys, Purple Cowboy wines have given a portion of proceeds from sales back to TETWP since its inception. As of 2020, 100% of Purple Cowboy’s profits give back to TETWP.

Today, Terry is President at Vintage Wine Estates, and continues to produce Purple Cowboy wines, still a delicious way to give back to an important cause.

Terry & Purple Cowboy Wines

Terry Wheatley was raised in a ranching family in Red Bluff, California. Both her husband and son are former professional rodeo cowboys. The band of winemaking cowboys she met in the wine business inspired her to create Purple Cowboy wines.
